In many work processes, equipment, machines or systems need to be supplied with gaseous and liquid media, as well as with electricity (for energy or data transmission). To ensure flexible and therefore cost-effective use, or for maintenance purposes, many pipes are not permanently connected to one another but are designed to be separable using quick-release couplings.

Quick-release coupling systems enable the efficient and reliable connection and replacement of systems, units, equipment and the like, and are one of the prerequisites for the cost-effective interconnection of mobile components with one another or between mobile components and stationary installations. Today, quick-release coupling systems are also used as a reliable loading aid and as filling couplings for refuelling operations.

Quick-release couplings each consist of two components: the coupling and the nipple – available in many variants and designs, for example as

• Clean-break couplings (dry couplings / dry-break couplings)
• Low-, medium- and high-pressure couplings for pressures up to 3,500 bar
• Subassembly elements for direct installation
